TALLAHASSEE, FLA. 6/24/09-ECOPASSAGE CH01-Matt Aresco, a wildlife biologist with the Lake Jackson Ecopassage, holds the carcass of a female Suwannee Cooter turtle he found on the edge of US Highway 27, June 24, 2009 in Tallahassee. Aresco has been working for years to have Florida DOT build a series of culverts so turtles and other animals can safely cross under the road. The project, he says, will protect motorists and animals alike. The project has recently come into the national spotlight after U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., questioned using federal money to help fund it. ..COLIN HACKLEY PHOTO
